Albany is located in the heart of the Willamette Valley, and the Willamette River runs along the city. The Albany area is known as the "grass seed capital of the world". Linn County is the leading producer in the U.S. of ryegrass grass seed. Other crops produced include corn, beans, mint, strawberries, and hazelnuts. Albany is also known as the “rare metals capital of the world”, producing zirconium, hafnium, and titanium.
Albany is centrally located with I-5 near and Highways 20 and 34 to the far East and West travel. Portland, the Cascade Mountains and the Pacific Ocean are 1 1/2 hours away.
Albany is credited by historians and architects with having the most varied collection of historic buildings in Oregon. This collection includes styles from the 1840s through the late 1920s and is concentrated within an area of approximately one hundred square blocks.

Fishing in the fall about an hour away, you can fish for: salmon and steelhead. (50 miles east of Albany), streams and lakes in the Cascades provide trout fishing in the summer. Warm water game fishing is available in ponds and backwater areas along the Willamette River. World class skiing at Mt. Hood (2.5 hours away) Mt. Bachelor (3 hours away) Or Hoodoo Ski Bowl only (1.5 hours away).
